Slow Food looks at a whole new way of eating and living. It encompasses individuals from all over the world, who not only take great pleasure in food but are also extremely committed to community and the environment.

You want it...You can HAVE IT at Muhlenberg College! Design your OWN salad competition!

Student Students at Muhlenberg College want more direct control of what is being served to them on campus. To introduce the warm weather and the love of summer salads, our dinning team decided to hold a design your own salad competition. Students wrote down and submitted their own customized salad choice. Then, the dinning team picked the winner and served it to the student body the following week in the campus dinning hall. The first customized salad was served last week! The recipe consisted of fresh strawberries, mixed green leaves, red onions, and walnuts served with a sesame seed vinaigrette dressing! YUM!

Copper Chef

We recently had a face off between two chefs here at Western Illinois University. It was just like the real T.V. show, having to make certain dishes with only certain ingredients. It was very neat and so many students and staff showed up. Some people even made T-shirts for their favorite chef. If you don't have an event like this on campus you really need to get it. It is a good way of letting the students know who their chefs are and interacting with everyone.

Healthier Lifestyle

Hi guys!

You hear a lot about living a healthy lifestyle, but what does                                                        that mean? Do you practice healthy lifestyle?

College life can be tough, stressful and overwhelming at times.                                                          So, It is very important for us to lead a well balanced life at                                                        college with includes college health. Staying healthy at college                                                         is important because it helps us to feel better and more                                                    confident. This helps in all aspects of college life including                                                     scholastic, social, and overall well-being.

Recently, my dining hall(Stevens Dining Services) decided to                                                     switch to Vegan SALT FREE Butter Alternative that has                                                                     0 Trans Fat for grill section. Not only it is good for vegan,                                                                it is also a better choice than margerine because                                                                        too much sodium is bad for your health. 

Next, they also started Whole Wheat Wednesday where                                                                they will serve different type of wheat product from                                                               breakfast till late night snacks. Wheat is a good source                                                                    of complex carbohydrate, the most efficient source of                                                              energy available to the human body. I think this is a                                                                          great idea since students usually dont include wheat                                                                   product in their meal portions. So far, Stevens students                                                               are enjoying their healthy food option serve in the                                                                          dining hall and they are excited to see what is next.

Last week ice cream special was my favorite flavor, Green Tea!

Lehigh Valley Chef’s Fair

Here at Muhlenberg College, we can’t wait for our annual Lehigh Valley Chef’s Fair on February 8th from 4:30-8:30PM in our Wood Dinning Commons Hall. Sodexo chefs from Moravian College, DeSales College, Lafayette College, and Lehigh University will compete alongside Muhlenberg College to win the title of BEST CHEF. This year’s theme is no other than: TAILGATING!!!
We all can’t wait for wings and pulled pork sandwiches!

Reality Senior Experience at Muhlenberg College

Just last weekend before the end of Winter Break, Muhlenberg College hosted its yearly Reality Senior Experience preparing them for life after college. Besides learning how to go apartment hunting and paying bills, seniors took part in learning how to cook for themselves. Seniors were taught what to always keep in their pantry and cooking essentials. Also, seniors learned how to prepare, serve and cook chicken in all different ways.

But, why just chicken you might ask? Later that night seniors returned for IRON CHEF: MUHLENBERG COLLEGE EDITION. The secret ingredient: Chicken!

Seniors were grouped and assigned whom they would be cooking and serving their food for. Some scenarios included cooking for game night, your boss or in-laws. Would you cook wings for your in-laws? I don’t think so, but for game night sounds more like it. Faculty and chefs from the Muhlenberg community served as judges for the event.

SUCH A GREAT SUCCESS!!!!

Just catching up on the blogging

Hey guys it's Lisa from TechNo. I am sorry for getting off schedule with updating the blog but I've recently had a big back surgery and have had many complications and honestly getting on the computer was the last thing on my mind.  But now I have nothing to do besides sleep and catch up with work so I am back on track.  So Mim posted about the Google Googles app and I just now read about it and it is pretty neat.  I don't really like the picture too much just because it doesn't recognize the pictures that I took but I'm sure if it is distinct enough or a bar code then it will be able to identify it easily.  The voice command is just the coolest thing ever!! I love this feature.  You have to be very clear but it will pull up exactly what you want on google.  So neat.  Also on another note sticky bits is similiar to this app but you take pictures of things and then it will connect to bar codes and pictures that other people have posted on this website.  If you register now on sticky bits they have a contest going on right now!  Check it out and you may win a years supply of Fiji Water (the cool water in the square bottles)!

Helping Hands Campaign at Stevens Institute of Technology

Helping Hands Across America is an annual event sponsored by Sodexo. On November 12th, Sodexo, together with it's business partners, clients and neighbors will set out to collect enough canned and non-perishable food items to break a Guinness World Record. The collected items will then be donated to local food banks and charities.

Stevens Dining Services also hosted the Helping Hands Campaign. We started the campaign on October 17th, 2010. To promote this campaign, we first contacted Student Life Committee, Student Government Association, Greek Community, and Ethnic Student Council. Then, we promoted the event through Stevens Dining page, Facebook and flyers. The Student Life Committee has helped us to promote this event through Student Life Newsletter on a weekly basis. The key student who has helped us to make this event successful was Chris Ciabattone, the President of Delta Tau Delta. He and his brothers from Delta Tau Delta donated 900lbs of canned food!! Many thanks to them.

Then, we brought all the food to local church in Hoboken where they will distribute all the donations. We are really thrilled that we helped our neighbor in need and make them happy.

Japan's Cool Vending Machines

Have you wondered why Japan has vending machines all over the place?

Japan has so many people on the run at all hours, it's the best way to be sure they can always find what they need. No wonder they are one of the world's highest vending machine densities. Machines can be found all over cities, towns and even in the countryside. Almost none of them are vandalized or otherwise non-functional.

And recently, a new vending machine that recommends drink to the buyer. It uses facial recognition technology to recommend the drink based on the age, gender, time of the day and also the weather. How awesome is that!  You can read the article:  here
